It was an honour to achieve the Jack Thomas award at the Taekwon-do-wales awards night on Friday for recognition of my contribution to the tournament squad. It’s awesome to see my name alongside some great names of the past.

I would like to thank Master Peter Kent Marrast for the opportunity to help this team grow from strength to strength. Watching them perform and seeing training drills translate to points and wins on the mats has been amazing. Also, Seeing these guys overcoming the mental challenges of competing and gaining confidence in their capabilities, which we know they have.

I also want to give a nod to the parents who travel across the country and Europe to bring their children to the tournaments, and who sit, watch and I have no doubt go through all the emotions these kids go through! It’s tough as a spectator, so thanks, without you we have no team.

Finally to the team, who have been outstanding this year. whether it was you 100th time or your first time, I know that every time is scary, you are entering the unknown every time you step on the mats, just trust your skills and training. Remember, whether you win or lose, each time you step on that mat you are building your character, your inner strength and confidence, ultimately your indomitable spirit!!

Thanks again!

Have a great Christmas all!

Marcus Yalland

PS Also, let the kids know, the more chocolate they eat, the harder they need to work in squads next year!! 😂
